“The hero of the evening was Leo Nucci in the title role. … He employed a wide variery of tone, from the authoritative launch of the canonical "S\'appressare gl\'istanti" to the constantly changing moods of his Act III duet with Abigaille and the long scene of his conversion and the recovery of his sanity … a masterful performance.”Opera News on this production
“..as big Verdi sopranos go today Guleghina is the tops. She\'s the reigning diva." Times Literary Supplement
- A strong cast sings Nabucco, the work which established Verdi amongst the great composers of opera, in the Vienna State Opera’s first staging of the work since 1843.
- Günter Krämer directs a modern staging using a virtually empty stage, with costumes representing an Eastern European Jewish population before the holocaust, and the photographs presented by the chorus of Jewish men, women and children murdered in World War II.
- The excellent pairing of established world stars Leo Nucci and Maria Guleghina lead a cast conducted by Fabio Luisi in this biblical tale of King Nebuchadnezzar.
