Everything in The Sims Medieval is crafted to create an immersive medieval world, from the quest-based gameplay, to the medieval objects such as swords and stocks and thrones, right down to the warm look of the characters, and the painterly approach to the world itself. Players can choose to customize every new Hero that comes to the kingdom, including selecting their traits and their fatal flaw. Players get close to their characters, not only sending them on epic quests, but also making sure they carry out their daily responsibilities such as healing the sick, trading for exotic goods, or forging armor. From having a baby to competing in a royal tournament, what happens to their Sims is up to the player. The time of romance and chivalry is back with The Sims Medieval.

There is no denying it... everything was more fun in the middle ages. You got to burn witches at the stake, die of plague, and if you were particularly lucky you got to go on a crusade to the holy land and had to walk the whole way. And then fight infidels for no other reason than the Church said so... yay!

On top of that washing had generally fallen out of fashion as can be seen in the time honored tradition of brides carrying a bucket of flowers. This proud tradition springs from the simple necessity of having something that could hide the brides body odor. Yummy!

As a sim in the middle ages you will be thrilled to know that there are still hundreds and hundreds of years until basic human and civil rights are implemented. Not having to vote really frees up a lot of time you can then spend in a more productive fashion working the lands on the lords estate.

Naturally there are downsides to the middle ages as well, such as no TV, but this is alleviated by the fact that the average lifespan for a peasant was only slightly above 30 years. So one really had to use all those long evenings to make sure one served ones biological purpose, and not just waste away in front of the TV watching Desperate Housewifes. So you see, it all works out rather well

In general terms the "middle ages" are the years between the fall of Rome and the renaissance meaning roughly from 500AD to 1400AD. Typically we regard this period as a dark age where very little of interest happened. Nothing could be further from the truth as this was also the very time when the Vikings were around. And boy did they know how to have a good time!

As you probably already know England was discovered in A.D. 793 by peaceful viking traders. The Vikings made landfall near the monastery at Lindisfarne where they traded with the local inhabitants selling bacon and lurpak butter in exchange for gold, religious relics and slaves. The natives were so thrilled by their visitors that they promptly started paying a voluntary tax called Danegeld (Danish Tax). The English paid so much coin to the vikings this way that more English coins of this era has been found in Sweden than in England. Unfortunately this tax has since been dropped meaning that the English at the moment owe about 1000 years worth of Danegeld (we are more than willing to accept a down payment in the form of Salt & Vinegar crisps).

A lot of trading took place between Scandinavia and England at the time. And regular trade routes were quickly established. Navigation was a bit of a problem due to the compass not being invented yet and mead having been invented some years earlier. Thus viking ships making the trip from Scandinavia to England discovered Greenland and later Vinland (America).

So there you have it. I promise you... all if it is more or less entirely true.
